What is kakapo?
Kakapo is one of birds that can't fly, and Kakapo is in only New Zealand. All people in NZ know them.Researcher said kakapo has the longest life in parrots. But kakapo is in danger of extinction. Why? Human impact About 200 years ago, many immigrants came to NZ. They brought animals as cats, rats, dog, and so on. The foreign speices are enemy of kakapo. The enemy eat kakapo is not only animals but also immigrants. The people hunted for eating or making goods. In addition, they broke kakapo's habitats to make farms. As a result, the number of kakapo is only 54 in 1998. |
Since NZ government tried to protect kakapo in 1891, people are intersted in kakapo. People knew that other animals killed more 50 % of kakapos, and Kakapo is moved to islands which enemy of them is not in, by group for protecting them. Now, kakapo can not live without our help.
